A teacher has been arrested by the police for allegedly selling a Mercedes Benz belonging to his brother without the latter's knowledge.

The suspect, Kwasi Frimpong, was arraigned in an Accra circuit court presided over by M.E. Essandoh on Monday for selling the bus valued at about GH ¢25,000 without informing his brother.

He was charged for defrauding by false pretences, pleading not guilty to the allegation.

He was subsequently granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 25,000 with two sureties, while the case has been adjourned to September 30, 2015.

The facts of the case as presented by the prosecuting officer, Chief Inspector Francis Tassan, are that the complainant in the case is Albert Ankrah, a resident of Ayigbetown-Weija, while the accused person is a teacher.

He said the complainant who had gone to a mechanic shop to have his vehicle repaired saw a Mercedes Benz for sale, so he took wrote down the licence plate number to contact the owner of the bus who truly confirmed that the vehicle was for sale.

Chief Inspector Tassan narrated that they negotiated the price and arrived at GH¢25,000, adding that the complainant fully paid for the bus and was handed over the document of the vehicle.

Furthermore, he said the complainant later saw a picture of someone who bore slight resemblance to the accused and asked him who it was, but Frimpong added that he was the very person in the picture which was taken some years ago.

The police officer said the complainant took the vehicle home together with its documents and went ahead to buy an engine for the bus and other parts needed to make the vehicle function properly.

He stated that barely a week after driving the vehicle, the complainant was stopped by the police who arrested him for buying a stolen vehicle.

The prosecutor said the complainant told police who he bought the vehicle from; to which they explained that the vehicle was not for the suspect but for his brother whose consent Frimpong did not seek before selling the car.

In addition, he said attempts by the buyer to get in touch with the teacher to get his side of the story proved futile as he went into hiding, so the matter was reported to the police leading to his arrest.

He said Frimpong admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and promised to refund but had so far failed to do so.
