Martin Amidu Must Lead Prosecution Against ‘Corrupt’ Judges - Prof. Asare

Law Professor Kwaku Asare is rooting for anti-graft campaigner Martin Amidu to be made the prosecutor in the event that the state decides to press charges against the judges who have been implicated in the latest corruption expose' in the judiciary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

According to him, his choice of the former attorney general is informed by the fact that the State will require a person of a proven incorruptible record to take on such a task.

Twenty-two Ghanaian judges have so far been suspended following two years of painstaking investigations into the activities of Ghanaian judges and other staff of the judiciary by Anas. Twelve more are still under probe awaiting sanctions. The Chief Justice and the Judicial Council are today Thursday, September 10 meeting Anas and the accused persons to analyse the video evidence brought against them in order to decide the way forward.

Speaking to Starr Today host Bernard Nassara Saibu Wednesday, the law lecturer said the matter must not be treated lightly.

'We must prosecute the judges because corruption is a crime under the republic and that; we will need independent prosecutors to deal rapidly with the judge in order to get people to be more confident in the Judiciary.

'I think they could employ the services of people in private practice to do the work. I have in mind Martin Amidu. He could be put on contract to prosecute these people for us, on short term basis,' he stated.
