Nana Pledges First Class Gov’t

The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has indicated that an NPP government under his leadership – beginning January 2017 – will provide Ghanaians with a first class administration which sole aim will be to improve their living conditions.

Assuring Ghanaians of the fulfilment of this pledge, Nana Akufo-Addo emphasised that 'We in the NPP have the men and the women that will give Ghanaians a decent standard of living because we are going to work honestly to solve the problems of our people.'

The economic crisis Ghana finds herself in under the John Mahama government, in the view of Nana Akufo-Addo, is because of the 'gross mismanagement and unprecedented corruption.'

An NPP government under his leadership, he said, would put the interests of the citizens first.

'When we win the election of 2016, we are going to form a first class government in this country. We are coming to do a job for Ghana. So let's all make it clear that we are going to rise up and build the new Ghana,' he added.

Nana Akufo-Addo made this known when he met 11 parliamentary candidates from the Agotime Ziope, Akatsi North, Akatsi South, Anlo, Keta, South Tongu, Central Tongu, North Tongu, Ketu North, Ketu South and Adaklu constituencies in Anloga on Thursday, September 3, 2015.

Ghana, according to Akufo-Addo, under the leadership of President Kufuor, was being held up as the 'poster' country and hailed across the world as the success story of the New Africa.

'Five years later, we are back in the grip of the IMF and our people are going through difficulties that they should not be going through. All across the country there is one cry: 'NPP come back and improve things for us in the future,'' he said.

He insisted that for the NPP to wrestle power from the John Mahama government, 'We have to fortify our base as a party, and that is why I came here today, to speak to you in these 11 constituencies, towards that end.'

He continued, 'I know all about competition. But at the end of the day, Ghana and our party are bigger than each one of us. We have to close the gap between the NPP and the Volta Region. Whatever I can do to give you the wherewithal, the capacity to fight and win, I am going to do it. You are the ones who are going to do the work. You are the ones going to send to the constituencies the NPP's message of hope, message of progress and the message that Ghana can work again. Let's all rally together.'

Volta Gap
On the importance of closing the gap between the NPP and the Volta Region in the 2016 elections, Nana Akufo-Addo revealed that there are a total of 19 constituencies across the country where the NDC's margin of victory over the NPP is more than 70%.

This statistic, according to the NPP flagbearer, becomes ominous when '18 of those 19 constituencies are in the Volta Region.'

To this end, Nana Akufo-Addo charged the regional executives, constituency executives, aspirants in the NPP parliamentary primaries – both winners and losers in the 11 constituencies – to come together and work hard because 'if we close that gap, even by 10%, we have won the election of 2016.
