Traditional Ruler throws weight behind NSD

Prang, (B/A), Sept. 3, GNA - Nana Kwadwo Nyarko III, the Omanhene of Prang the Pru District of Brong-Ahafo on Wednesday called on the government to engage sanitation inspectors to strengthen the National Sanitation Day (NSD) concept.

He said until sanitation inspectors are engaged in local communities, empowered and mandated to monitor and check personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness, the idea behind the NSD would not be achieved.

Nana Nyrako made the call when Mr Justice Samuel Adjei, the Deputy Regional Minister interacted with the members of the Prang Traditional Council at Prang.

The Deputy Regional Minister, accompanied by some staff of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, was in the area to sensitise the people on the forthcoming NSD.

Sunyani, the Regional capital, would host the 10th edition of the NSD scheduled Saturday, September 5.

Government introduced the NSD policy which falls on the first Saturday of every month and aimed at helping to control filth through clean up exercises nationwide.

Nana Nyarko lauded the NSD, adding that a radical approach is required to ensure that people change their attitude and stop littering their surroundings indiscriminately.

Mr Adjei who also interacted with and explained the concept of the NSD to the members of the Yeji and Atebubu Traditional Councils, asked the chiefs to revisit some traditional practices that promote environmental cleanliness.

Such effective practice, he observed is the organisation of communal labour activities to inculcate the spirit of volunteerism, among especially the youth.
