Hundreds of people have attended a festivity to mark the coronation of a new Kontihene of the Dompoase Divisional Council of Adansi Traditional Area in the Ashanti Region.

The new chief, Nana Bosompem Katakyie Apenteng II, inherits powers which cover five communities in Obuasi municipality, namely Akaporiso, Diewuoso, Pomposo, Mampamhwe and Bosman.

In the Obuasi suburb of Akaporiso, there was a carnival atmosphere in the community when the chief was taken through the street to meet his people for the first time.

The arena was packed to capacity by a large crowd of people, including some government officials and politicians and chiefs who came to pay homage to the divisional chief.

Most people were dressed in elegant cloths, dancing to drums at the jubilant atmosphere with pomp and pageantry amidst cultural displays.

The 39-year-old contractor, who assumed the throne, wore a rich kente cloth and was protected from the sun by an umbrella.

In a short message to his people, Nana Bosompem Katakyie Apenteng II said his reign would witness total transformation in the lives of the people, while pledging his commitment to development of the local communities under his jurisdiction.

For him, the best form of human empowerment lies in education, for which reason he would make it the number priority on his agenda.

The chief expressed concern about the poor demarcation of stool lands in the Obuasi municipality and called on the workers at the Town and Country Planning Department to consult traditional rulers in such arrangements.
