Bolgatanga, Sept. 1, GNA - Voting ended peacefully in the Upper East Region at 1700 hours and counting is going on in earnest at the polling stations.

Despite rains in the morning that slightly disrupted voting at some electoral areas, the turnout at polling stations the GNA visited were above 40 per cent in the Builsa South and a little less in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

At the Bukere Old Bakery Polling Station in Daporetingdongo in Bolgatanga, 370 people out of 724 voters had voted by 16:20 hours with no queue.

However, people were teeming up at the Bukere Primary A and B schools at 16:32 hours where voting was still ongoing and a few people rushing in to cast their votes.

According to the Presiding Officer only four people had verification challenges at the two polling stations.

At Primary A, 352 out of 925 had cast their votes and at B, 232 people had voted out of 680 registered voters.

Meanwhile 13 people failed to vote at the Kumbosco Primary School in Bolgatanga due to biometric verification challenges and the presiding officer said more people had left because they could not be verified even after washing their fingers several times. However 300 voters had cast their votes out of 801 voter population at1540 hours.

By 16:30 hours at the Fumbisi Electoral area, 130 people had voted at the English Arabic Junior High out of 288 registered voters while at the Fumbisi Primary school, 395 out of 567 people registered had voted.

At Kasiasa Yamonang, 266 had voted by 16:50 and at Fumbisi Town Council, out of 557 voter population, 216 had voted.

At Fumbisi Central, 312 out of 769 had voted while about 10 people were still in queue by 16:55 hours and at Loninsa 237 people had voted out 441 registered voters.
