EC officer visits centre with NDC chairman

Tema, Sept. 1, GNA - Mr Watson Tizor Apentsui, Tema Metropolitan Electoral Commission Officer was on Tuesday seen visiting some polling centres with Alhaji Mahama Bulesa, Tema East National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman.

Even though the district level election is none partisan, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) spotted Mr Apentsui and Alhaji Bulesa at the Padmore School in the Padmore electoral area in the Tema East Constituency.

When the reporter for the GNA tried to get an interview from the EC officer, the NDC chairman prevented her saying the reporter should wait till the two finished their rounds in the constituency.

They were at the school to inform the presiding officers of the five centres, of the stepping down of one of the seven candidates for the assembly member' slot.

Mr Reginald Kizito Kofi Soglo was said to have stepped down after the election commenced leaving six contesting for the assembly slot and 14 vying for a position on the Unit Committee.

Meanwhile, the district level election took off smoothly with no incidents in the Tema Metropolis.

Most of the centres visited in the Tema East, Tema Central and West Constituencies were generally calm.

At about 09:10 hours, three out of the 240 registered voters have cast their votes at Padmore No 2 Primary centre.

Thirteen out of 621 have also successfully gone through the election process at Padmore centre C.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who was accompanied by officials of the Assembly, visited the Manhean Polyclinic centre in the Sea-light electoral area in Tema Newtown.

As at 10:15 hours, 73 out of the 870 eligible voters at the centre '10B' at Tema Manhean Polyclinic has cast their votes.

He also visited centres at the Manhean Secondary Tech School in the Oninku Electoral area.

At centre 'A' (B), a fisherman about 45 years could not vote because the verification machine could not pick any of his fingerprints even after washing them with soap.
