Power Minister, Dr. Kwabena Donkor has directed the load management committee to release 30 Megawatts of power to Ghana's industrial sector to ease its current demand challenges under the load-shedding programme.

This will reduce the load withheld from the industrial sector from 130 Megawatts to 100 Megawatts with immediate effect.

A statement issued yesterday in Accra and signed by Kweku Sersah-Johnson, Head of Public Affairs at the Power Ministry, said the ministry was keeping a close eye on developments in the generation, distribution and supply of electricity and will announce further changes as and when necessary.

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) started a power rationing plan in February where customers were expected to experience 24 hours power outage (lights off) and have power restored for the next 12 hours.

However, authorities have been unable to adhere to the timetable and in the process caused a lot of discomfort for domestic users and industrial users alike.

Dr Donkor, it would be recalled, told the media in Accra that by the end of this year, if the power situation does not improve, he should be sacked from office.

ECG has cut power to consumers without any prior information even though initially it advertised a timetable for the exercise and courted some level of sympathy from users.

Domestic users are skeptic about their plight under the current circumstances.

Some workers of Small and Medium-scale Enterprises have also been sacked as a result of the power outages.
