Voting, peacefully underway in Dormaa Municipality

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Sept.1, GNA - Voting in the District Level Elections (DLE) in the Dormaa Central Municipality has been smooth and peaceful since it began at 0700 hours today.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited some of the polling stations between 0700 and 1000 hours, there had been no records of complaints and challenges but whiles voters' level of enthusiasm at some centres was high, same was not the case at other polling stations.

There was, however, security officials and agents of candidates present at all the centres observing the process.

As at 0832 hours at the Akonkodiem 'A' Centre in the Dormaa Senior High School campus, 12 out of 365 eligible voters had cast their ballots.

Mr. Richard Amankwah, the Presiding Officer (PO), described the turn out as not encouraging and attributed it to the low publicity given to the DLEs as compared to the general elections.

At the centre 'B', in the same area, 21 people, comprising 12 males and nine females out of 604 had voted as at 0837 hours.

Mr. Amankwaah described that as 'quite impressive' and expressed optimism that by noon, the number would have increased.

He said there were no problems and complaints with the verification machines and other election materials.

As at 0900 hours at the Saint Dominic Preparatory School, 39 out of 979 registered voters had voted and Mr. Paul Tibil, the PO described the number as unimpressive.

At the Saint John's Preparatory School 'A', Mr. Kwansah Godman, the PO, described the turn out as low and stated that 42 voters, consisting of 21 males and 21 females out of 774 eligible voters had exercised their franchise as at 0943 hours.

The PO added that there were no complaints, saying the polling agents had comported themselves well.

At Centre 'B' in the same place, Mr. Amera Musah, the PO said there were 764 qualified voters, of which 46 comprising 25 males and 21 females had already voted as at 0953 hours.

He said the electorate attached less importance to this political exercise but was, however, hopeful that by the close of day, more voters would have trooped in to cast their ballots.
