A Letter To The President

A Letter To The President
01.09.2015 LISTEN

Dear president,

I Say Congratulations!!!!! True Leader. The GMA’s strike is one of the biggest tests a leader can ever face, yet once again the current government led by H. E. JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA proved why the people of Ghana elected them to stir the affairs of this nation. Over the years, the GMA has used its important role to always get what it wants from various governments, with just a strike.

Again, they were looking to dictate to the Mahama government on what to do, but this time they were unlucky to meet a leader who moves in the right direction regardless of what people say [yentie obiaa].with people dying and others in pain, one will expect that the governmen will be under pressure to do the wrong thing, by granting the striking doctors what they want, regardless of the cost, but you took a brave decision. ‘‘As politicians we have learnt to have tough skins, but I don’t know how tough my skin is’’ you said this at this year’s GJA awards.

You have proven that you have the toughest skin ever. Acting as a politician, you would have granted the GMA their request due to political pressure, as next year is an election year, but you chose to act as a nationalist, a true leader who thinks the right thing must be done. For this, we must all appreciate your braveness.

It is a shame that our own doctors, after receiving their salaries and allowances, will choose their conditions of service, allowing their brothers and sisters to die in the hospitals. We all know that doctors are very important for our health, unfortunately, every Ghanaian cannot be a doctor, there must be: a teacher in the class room, a barber, a carpenter, an electrician and many more.

Therefore, everybody is important and we need each other to function, without the patient there wouldn’t be a doctor. If the doctors think they are the most important workers, then it is a mistake. If the military man has chosen to die for Ghana and does not ask for the whole world, then our doctors must learn from that. This Ghana was not built by selfish and greedy people but selfless and committed citizens like ‘THE BIG SIX’, who considered Ghana first ahead of themselves, every Ghanaian should do the same, so that we can build a better Ghana for our grandchildren.

The legality of the strike was questioned from the beginning, with another true Ghanaian taking the GMA to court. If the strike is declared illegal by the court, the GMA must be made to pay for the damages. If robbery is the act of taking a property unlawfully and by force, then our doctors can be charged for ‘attempted robbery’ and our president congratulated for preventing that act, at least for now.

Conditions of service should be negotiated by both parties but not dictated to the employer. Resuming work after 3 weeks of unsuccessful

strike means the GMA’s strike was a mistake, because the only results are ‘several deaths’.

During the strike, we lost several precious lives. Aside the doctors, other people can be blamed for that and not you. From the beginning of the strike, I listened to many influential people speak. Politicians, celebrities, sportspeople, the religious and other important Ghanaians, most of these people condemned the strike and urge the doctors to go back to work.

Those are the type of people that deserve their positions, they use their influence to act on the course of the truth at all times, and I say; congratulations and thank you to them all. Meanwhile, others refused to publicly condemn the strike even though they know the right thing, saying things like: ‘the doctors have lost confidence in the government’, ‘government should win back their confidence and let the return to work’ and many other unnecessary comments just for political reasons, this is disgraceful and selfish, they would have served Ghana better by keeping quiet.

They should be partly blamed for the strike and its effects. Being a politician does not mean supporting unlawful acts, but propagating the truth in your own way. I therefore call on all our politicians to imitate JOHN MAHAMA at least in this case.

Mr. President, if no one will congratulate you for your braveness and urge you on, I will. I would have love to visit you, but am not permitted so let me say; CONGRATULATION to you, aside politics you are a great man.

KEEP ON EVEN IF THEY DONT SAY IT, MANY ARE THOSE WHO ADMIRE.
