Food for All Ghana today, held its first edition of the “share your breakfast” weekend community service train at the Accra Psychiatric hospital. The food recovery and feeding program saw first cohorts of the ongoing Young African Leadership Initiative ,Accra RLC supporting the program both financially and volunteering by preparing breakfast to feed nearly five hundred patients at the psychiatric facility.

Speaking at the launch, the executive director of West Africa Food for All bank, Elijah Amoo Addo stated “share your breakfast is a new program where every weekend we take volunteers and celebrities to communities across the country to serve recovered food at marketplaces, community centres, churches and less privileged homes, whilst we educate the public on the economic and environmental impact of food wastage and hunger across West Africa”.

He further stated that the initiative gives corporate Ghana the opportunity to sell their products and brands. Our location next week will be at the Makola market on Saturday and Osu Children's home on Sunday. This program is aimed at reviving voluntary community service among Ghanaians whiles we create sustainable means of nutrition for the vulnerable in society and give opportunity to corporate bodies to sell their brands.

Also speaking at the program, Mohammed Sheriff Bah, A Sierra Leonean participant representing cohorts of the YALI Accra RLC stated that across West Africa kid’s die daily due to hunger yet inefficiencies in our food supply chain increases the amount of food going waste. He encouraged the youth to support and join the campaign to build food banks across west Africa and entreated West African’s to participate in the West Africa food for All conference and Guinness world for the longest table on a UN World food day scheduled from the 13th-18thOctober 2015.

Expressing the gratitude on the behalf of patients at the home, the resident nurse of the home encouraged individuals and corporate bodies to donate food to the bank instead of it going waste. She appealed to the National coordinator of Food for All Ghana, Henrietta Adjetey to come to their aid with food products to feed the patients.
