AUG 31, 2015 LISTEN

Food for All Ghana Campaign, a food wastage and food recovery project by Chefs for Change Ghana Foundation in partnership with SAVE FOOD, (an FAO Global Initiative for the reduction of food loss and wastage) has been recognized with an award for “Best Practices” by the Government of Dubai for its outstanding contribution towards improving the living environment.

For the past four years, the foundation has been campaigning to reduce food wastage in the country as over 35% of food produced in Ghana go waste with plans of building West Africa's first Food Recovery Bank in the country.

The founder of the foundation, Chef Elijah Addo explained the award reiterates the foundation’s quest to build food recovery banks across West Africa to create sustainable means of nutrition for the less and vulnerable in society.

“Our solution towards reducing food wastage and hunger in West Africa was singled out as one of the 100 Best Global practices in 2014 at the Dubai International Award for Best Practices(DIABP)”, he added.

He however dedicated the award to all the stakeholders who helped in making the dream a reality- “We dedicate this award to all our stakeholders including Airtel Ghana’ Touching lives, Finatrade foundation, 2015 Food for All Ghana Goodwill Ambassador- Trigmatic, Nestle Ghana Professionals, Ghana market women association and many others who have been donating their excesses to our food bank. I will entreat everyone to join us to create a food waste free West Africa and feed the less privileged this October at the West Africa food for all conference and Guinness world record for the longest charity dinner table on UN World food day“.

The Dubai International Award for Best Practices plays a crucial role in the identification and dissemination of Best Practices from around the world. In the 10 cycle, 2014, the DIABP received around 315 submissions. These submissions were evaluated by the Technical Advisory committee, which singled out Food for All Ghana's initiative as a "Best Practice". The DIABP and its network of international partners produces casebooks, engage and transfers of best practice knowledge and expertise, and often invite best practices to be showcased in conferences, seminars and training workshops.

Airtel Ghana made a cash donation through its flagship award-winning Corporate Social Responsibility Television programme – Airtel Touching Lives as a beneficiary to solidify their commitment to inspire hope and offer a platform for enhanced quality of lives of the less privileged, identify challenges in various communities and provide solutions to them.

The 2015 Food for All Ghana campaign with partnership from SAVE FOOD under the theme, "Waste Not, Want Not, Building West Africa's First Food Recovery Bank" will be holding the first Food for All Ghana conference & Awards and on the 2015 UN World food day set a Guinness world record for the longest charity dinner table set on a UN World food day scheduled from the 13th -16th October, 2015.
