The Youth Are Venturing Into Politics To Secure Their Future - Dr. Amoako Baah
30.08.2015 LISTEN

A political science lecturer at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah says the rush for parliamentary seats by the youth is the result of the poor performance of the national economy.

He said the youth have their financial security in mind and have realized that the best place to achieve that is through parliament where emoluments are attractive and also guaranteed.

Dr. Amoako Baah was speaking on Suncity Radio Morning Show Programme in Sunyani on friday. He said the youth are not seeing anything attractive in doing business because of the state of the economy, coupled with the energy crisis and when they see the lifestyle of the politicians they are attracted more to go into politics.

On why people are not so much enthused in going into local government through the assembly elections, Dr. Amoako Baah said incentives at the local level are poor and not at all attractive thus they all aim at becoming national law makers where all the beautiful things in life can be attained within a short time despite the poor state of the national economy.

He said with the exception of the few who have made it in life and are in parliament, majority of politicians have joined the race to parliament because they want to secure their personal well-being first before thinking about national development. He was of the view that when the national economy improves, more people will go into business and those who opt for parliament or politics will be few.
