Make Urban Traffic Control Management Our Voluntary Service!!!
28.08.2015 LISTEN

With the number of out-of-service graduates approximating to 300000, We think the Urban Traffic Control Module by the National Service Scheme, should have addressed the astronomical increase in graduate unemployment in the country.

From where we sit, looking from our myopic view we think the scheme failed to do a broad consultation with all stakeholders involved in the scheme. This laudable idea if shaped well could have created about 150000 jobs for the youth of this nation.

The level of lethargy in our economy created by our traffic system is enormous and is costing the country huge productive hours. Whilst the urban traffic control module which in its entirety cannot solve the country's Traffic problems, we believe it can help sustain us while better policies are implemented. But in all these let not lose sight of the fact that the module would continue frivolous when the government fails build better roads, when the it fails to adopt better public transport policy, when decentralisation is done only on papers but not through infrastructures, when our Metropolitan and municipal assemblies fail to structure our marketing systems well e.t.c

The module which I believe could have being very creative enough to use modernised methods of traffic systems and the innovation of technological ideas like the use of the services person in creation of solar traffic lights, computer softwares , Mobile phone apps e.t.c with the pull of human resources from all backgrounds from our various tertiary institutions, is going to put about 80% of these brilliant minds under the hot sun. Under utilisation of our human resource is what a policy like this would breed when people do not sign up voluntarily.

We want to make a clarion call on the scheme to come clear on its resuscitation of the voluntary service, so we can beat down graduate unemployment in this country. We believe also that , people would put in their maximum effort into the Urban Traffic control module when it is a voluntary service. We hope and pray our call would be meet with a magnanimous response.
