The Central MTTU of the Ghana Police Service has sent a Press Release on the Road Closure for the maiden edition of the Millennium Marathon in Accra on Saturday September 5, 2015.

The release signed by A. Fosu-Ackah, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Commanding Officer Central MTTU/AR said in connection with the international event, the public is hereby informed of the closure of certain roads and traffic arrangement in Accra on 5th September from 05:00am to12 midday.

The Run will be in two folds (21 kilometers and 5 kilometers)

The 21 km event will affect roads such as Atta Mills High Street (From Cadbury House, near Enterprise Insurance to Trade Fair Junction), Gilffard Road (From trade Fair to 37 roundabout), Liberation Road (From 37 roundabout to Ako Adjei through to Independence Avenue to National Theater Traffic Light), Kwame Nkrumah Avenue (From Farisco to UTC through Wato roundabout.

The 5km route that will be closed are Cantoments Road (From Osu Traffic Light to Frankies restaurant), 4th Lane (From Frankies to Salem Street through to Salem Link, Angola Road (From SSNIT Specialist Hospital to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light), Starlets 91 Road (From Osu Cemetery to the Black Star Square.

The Police advice that Motorists are requested to note the following: Traffic from Teshie towards Osu will be stopped at Trade Fair junction and regulated. Motorists from La heading to Accra will be diverted at Kingdom Book junction and regulated at the traffic light near the Presby Church. Traffic on the Osu Oxford Street from Danquah Circle towards Papaye will be diverted near the shell filling station. Traffic on the Kwame Nkrumah Avenue from Farisco towards UTC will be a single lane traffic.

Traffic on the Liberation road from Airport direction towards Ako Adjei interchange will be diverted onto Obasanjo Highway at the 37 roundabout to Kaokudi to link up the Nima Highway. Motorists are therefore requested to take not and comply accordingly.

Motorists are further advised to note these arrangements and plans for alternative routes before embarking on their journey. Further to this, no vehicle would be allowed to park or drive through these mentioned roads. However, vehicles with accredited stickers carrying dignitaries or officials would be allowed to pass through before the start of the race. Once the race commence, no such vehicle or other will be permitted to drive through.

The public is further informed that police personnel will be in position at vantage points to assist.

The following areas have been earmarked for car packing at the event.

• The Forecourt of the State House
• Intercontinental Bank Car Park
• The Osu Cemetery Car Park
• The Accra Sports Stadium Car Park
• The Ministries
• West end of Independence Square only
