Asesewa (E/R), Aug. 27, GNA - Madam Esther Ayerh, the only woman contesting the upcoming assembly elections in the Upper-Manya Krobo District, called on the public to vote more women into the district assemblies.

Madam Ayerh, a retired teacher, who is contesting with six males for the Osonson electoral area, called on women in the locality to come out to vote massively for her on the election day.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA, the aspiring member said, the District is bedevilled with several development issues that needed attention.

Madam Ayerh said many women instead of sending their children to school rather engage them on farms and trading activities, a situation she explained often leads to high school drop-outs rates and teenage pregnancy among girls.

She said the need to sensitise women on the reason to send their children especially the girl- child to school needs a bigger platform for an enhanced discussion hence her decision to go to the assembly.

The aspiring member said her win would not only enable her champion the course of women and children in her electoral area, but being the only woman contestant, she would also serve as a role model to encourage girls to go to school to take up leadership positions.

She said even though she is contesting with six men, she is hopeful that if all women in the area vote for her, she would emerge the winner.

Madam Ayerh therefore appealed to women to go out massively and vote on September 1. GNA
