Welder Remanded For Defrauding A Farmer

A 28 years old welder has been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for defrauding a farmer, Kofi Apaah alias Mr. Koomson to the tune of GHc 800.00 with intention to secure him a job at Goldfields Ghana limited, within the Tarkwa Mines area.

The accused person Patrick Adjei alias Patrick Amoah pleaded not guilty by the court presided over by Mr.Justice Obeng Asante.

The complainant Kofi Apaah alias Mr. Koomson according to the Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, is a farmer and resident of Tarkwa Banso whilst the accused person Patrick Adjei is also a welder and resident of Brofoyedru, a suburb of Tarkwa.

The prosecutor said on the 4th of June, 2015 at about 10:00am, complainant met the accused at the Tarkwa lorry station, dress in a military uniform.

During a conversation between the two, accused told the complainant he is a military man operating at goldfields Ghana limited, Tarkwa mine and could secure him a mining job at the said company for fee of GHc 500.00.

Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah said the complainant told the accused he is not in the position of doing that job because of his age but would rather wish his son one Frank Koomson who is a witness in this case can have that opportunity.

He said complainant instantly paid GHc 300.00 to the accused and added the remaining GHc 200.00 the following day at the same place.

Accused person after collecting the money asked the complainants son to meet him at the goldfields Ghana limited, Tarkwa mine premises for medical examination with additional amount of GHc200.00.

According to Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah the complainant’s son went to the company premises again with GHc 100.00 the next day.

Accused once again met him and took the money after which he asked him to go and come back again the next day.

He said the witness came back the next day but accused was nowhere to be seen who has taken an amount of GHc 800.00 in total to secure him job and did not see the accused person since.

The prosecutor said on August 19, Police Tarkwa arrested the accused person in connection with a difference case which the complainant had information and came to the Police station and identified him as the culprit who took his money for the job.

Accused admitted the offence in his investigation caution statement. After investigations, he was charge with the offense and arraigned before court.
