BAC Organises Stakeholders Forum For Micro And Small Enterprises In Obuasi

Over eighty-six (86) jobs have so far been created since October, 2013 by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) through the Rural Enterprises Programme (REP) in the Obuasi Municipality.

This revelation was made on Wednesday, 26th August, 2015 when the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of Obuasi organized a stakeholder’s forum for Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE) in Obuasi.

Addressing participants mainly drawn from the Garages Association, Poultry farmers, Bee Keepers, Soap and Pomade Makers, Individual Beneficiaries, Representatives from Anglogold Ashanti (AGA) and Obuasi Municipal Assembly, the Head of BAC, Obuasi Mr. Kelvin Ofori Atta said the department has achieved most of their projection for the year and was upbeat about reaching their target for the remainder of the year.

Mr. Ofori Atta continued that from January to August, 2015, the following groups have been trained in various skills by the department through the Rural Enterprise Programme (REP);

  • Training for (20) photo graphers
  • Training for (30) people in baking and confectionery
  • 22 women trained in soap making
  • 22 women trained in decoration with the support of Anglogold Ashanti.
  • Training in occupational safety health and environmental management for 55 members of the Garages Association.

He, however, presented their Annual Workplan and Budget for 2016 and was hopeful that funds would be made available for subsequent stakeholders meeting.

Mr. Isaac Appiah Nsiah, the chairman of the Small and Medium Sub-committee of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly who praised the participants for turning up in their numbers advised the beneficiaries of the training by BAC-REP to make productive use of their training.

Representatives from Providence Life Insurance Company, an insurance firm also schooled participants on the need to take advantage of their mouthwatering policies for a secured future.

Participants were also given the platform to put forward their concerns and contributions.
