AGLA Honors Fordham Law School’s Leitner Center And Clinical Professor, Paolo Galizzi, On September 19, 2015

The Association of Ghanaian Lawyers of America (AGLA) will on Saturday, September 19, 2015 recognize the Leitner Center, Fordham Law School and Paolo Galizzi, Clinical Professor of law, for their exemplary work in helping to advance the rule of law in Ghana.

The recognition will formally take place at AGLA's dinner dance, which comes off at The Gran Centurions, Clarke, NJ, on September 19, 2015.

Fordham Law School’s Leitner Center and Professor Galizzi have been leaders in the effort to expand the frontiers of legal education, access to justice and judicial capacity building, among other initiatives, in Ghana. From summer and judicial programs in Ghana, collaborations with law schools and faculty, and assistance to the justice department of Ghana, Fordham and the Leitner Center have tremendously impacted justice delivery in Ghana. "Few other legal institutions have empowered and helped develop our judiciary as Fordham’s Leitner Center and Professor Galizzi have," said Kwaku Boafoh Agyeman, AGLA president.

Agyeman added that “Galizzi's leadership in continuing to engage with legal stalwarts and policy makers, facilitating trans-atlantic dialogue on Ghana's prison system, legal aid, and the bench and bar deserves our attention and recognition.” Desmond Dawuni, Communications Director of AGLA stated that “we hope the Center and Professor Galizzi realize that their work in Ghana has not gone unnoticed by Ghanaian lawyers who should rightly note their input.”

AGLA 2nd annual dinner dance brings together the broader community of Ghanaians, attorneys of Ghanaian descent practicing in the U.S. and other professionals in the NY, NJ and CT area. AGLA's chapter in the D.C. Maryland and Virginia area will be represented by a delegation led by Kwaku Ofori, Esq., it's president. Ofori said, "it is important to show appreciation to those entities that continue to contribute to legal development in Ghana as we strive to strengthen our judiciary and legal systems to improve access to justice.”

AGLA provides a forum for Ghanaian Lawyers in the United States to address matters relevant to their profession, to advocate and support the advancement of Ghana and its people while serving as a dominant link between Ghana and the United States.
