THERE IS a dangerous spectacle currently ongoing in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital which poses a great threat to life and security of the residents.
DAILY GUIDE has spotted some young men who boldly walk about right at Adum, the Central Business District (CBD) of the city, holding offensive weapons like sharp-looking machetes.
These young men, who more often than not are shabbily dressed, could daily be seen moving from one location of the city to another during working hours.
They don't do anything but could only be seen roaming right in the city center, openly displaying the dangerous-looking machete in the midst of other people, which seems unsafe.
The paper also gathered that these strange-looking people are also noticed in other Kumasi neighbourhoods like Krofrom, Bantama, Asafo, Patase, Asokwa, Ahodwo, Oforikrom, Tech and Suame just to mention a few.
Reports emerging also indicate that these young guys usually beg for alms from people that they meet on the street, whilst holding on to the sharp-looking machete.
Some residents of Kumasi that DAILY GUIDE spoke to expressed gross concern about the security threat that these strange men posed to the people in the Garden City and wondered why the city authorities are not doing anything about it.
Comfort Takyi, a trader at the Kumasi Central Market, said her heart always beats fast whenever she comes across them, noting that 'they don't work, they only walk about with their machete.'
'I think they are armed robbers who walk about in town in the afternoon just to monitor affluent-looking people who they would attack later,' Kwadwo Acheampong, a taxi driver, opined.
Maame Esi, a fishmonger at Asafo, sternly charged the city authorities to quickly do something about the presence of these strange people before they caused mayhem to innocent people.
On his part, Kwaku Agyare of Kronom in Kumasi did not understand why people could be allowed to walk about in the city with offensive weapons which they could use in attacking innocent people, noting, 'They should be arrested and investigated by the police.'
