The New Patriotic Party [NPP] Toronto Chapter in Canada come this Sunday August 16, 2015, will kick start what it calls “NPP’S Drive To Power in 2016” campaign.

As part of activities to launch this campaign drive, the chapter is calling on all Ghanaians resident in Greater Toronto Area [GTA] to attend a special town hall meeting on the said date.

Confirming the launching of the campaign drive to this reporter, the chairman of the chapter, Mr. Christian Akyempong, disclosed that the town hall meeting will feature guest speakers Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, MP for Asin Central; and Mr. Bernard Atwi Boasiako[a.k.a Chairman Wontumi] the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party.

Mr. Christian Akyempong said, the town hall meeting which will be under the theme” Ghana at Crossroads: Social and Economic Realities; and how NPP can win the 2016 election” will give the residents the platform to discuss the socio-economic issues in Ghana and why NPP has the resources to place Ghana back on the road to development.

Fliers’ announcing the town hall meeting featuring Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Wontumi, two NPP stalwarts has been in circulation for almost a month which has drawn majority of Ghanaians living here’s attention to the biggest event coming on at the Ghanaian Presbyterian Church, 51 Meadow Place, Toronto-Ontario, M9L OAL at 3:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Come Sunday it is expected that hundreds of patriotic followers of the NPP and sympathizers of the party’s 2016 presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, clad in the party’s colours will fill every chair in the sanctuary of the Ghanaian Presbyterian Church.

The usual shouts of the NPP slogan “Kukrudu, Eshie Rado Rado…..” may be revised to a new one which goes like this,” Kukrudu, We want power” with the third shout “Kukrudu” seeing members rising up and responding “We want Power, Power, Power Now” this reporter has learnt.

In 2011 late president John Evans Atta Mills visited Canada and held a town hall meeting with Ghanaians in Ottawa where he briefed the community about his government business back home in Ghana.

Prior to the 2012 general elections, the NPP vice presidential candidate, Dr. Marmoud Bawumiah also visited Canada and held a town hall meeting in Toronto where he explained why the NPP wanted to wrest power from the NDC government.

In fact no one really knows what message the two NPP stalwarts would be keeping under their sleeves only to deliver to Ghanaians in Canada.

But one can easily say that the speakers will definitely touch on the economic situation in Ghana, the energy crisis, strikes in public sector, security lapses, falling standards in education and health, the spiraling of the country’s currency CEDI against major currencies such as the dollar and other issues.
