RESIDENTS OF Jericho, a suburb of Ashaiman, claim they are living in fear, following the alleged murder of a 47-year-old man in the area.

The deceased, George Amegbanu, who was a clearing agent at the Tema Port, was said to have been shot in the head at dawn on Tuesday by three gun-wielding suspected armed robbers, who reportedly invaded his residence.

He was rushed to the Tema General Hospital immediately after the incident but as a result of the nationwide strike action by medical doctors, he was later sent to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra where he was pronounced dead.

His corpse has been deposited at the hospital's morgue for further investigations, as the bereaved family prepares to send him to his village in the Volta Region for burial.

He left behind a wife, Cecilia Tengeh and three children.

Several robbery incidents were reported to have occurred in the area, with criminals robbing residents of their properties. The latest of such incidents involved a pastor who was said to have been robbed at gunpoint.

Prior to that, a man was also rportedly robbed by some five suspected armed robbers who inflicted machete wounds on him.

Bishop Ferdinand Tommy Otumi, the owner of the compound house where the crime occurred, narrated to DAILY GUIDE that the unidentified killers invaded the house at about 3:30 am whiles most residents were fast asleep.

The Tema Regional Police spokeswoman, ASP Juliana Obeng, told DAILY GUIDE that her outfit had begun investigations into the incident and appealed to the public, especially residents of Jericho, to assist with information to hasten investigations.
