AUG 4, 2015 LISTEN

Two back-to-back robberies, Saturday and Sunday at Klagon, a community along the Tema Motorway in Accra have left residents in absolute fear.

One resident was shot by the robbers and has been admitted to the 37 Military hospital, but other residents lost several properties including cash and other electronic gadgets.

One of the victims, a breastfeeding mother, in an interview with Joy News' Joseph Opoku Gakpo narrated the harrowing experience she went through in the hands of the robbers and how she was locked in her own washroom whilst the robbers conducted a clean sweep of all the valuable things in her house.

According to her, she was on her way to the hall from the bedroom when she saw the gun and machete-wielding robbers standing right in there.

She then shouted once but was forced to shut up with a pointed gun right in her face. She was taken to her bedroom pushed onto her bed and that offered her the opportunity to cuddle her baby.

After the operation in the bedroom, she was forced down into the washroom where she was locked.

She told Gakpo her only prayer in the washroom was for the robbers to take everything they wanted but spare her life and that of her baby.

The did. They took away her TV, jewels, cash, laptops, phones.

It was a 'top-up' attack Sunday dawn after an earlier attack in the vicinity Saturday.

The residents are living in horror and are calling for increased protection from police.

One of the landlords in the area said the police are doing their best but wants them to do more to protect them.

According to Gakpo, anytime reports of armed robbery attacks are made to the police, they will come around and patrol the area for about three days and stop.

And when they stop, the armed robbers return. Whilst asking the police to ensure consistent patrols, the landlords are also seeking to strengthen the community watchdog roles.
