AUG 4, 2015 LISTEN

The New Patriotic Party's Director of Elections, Adjei Mensah Korsah has downplayed suggestions the recent chaos that has characterized the party’s parliamentary primaries will lead to its downfall.

Rather than predict doom, he says the NPP is on the verge of making history by unseating the ruling National Democratic Congress and every member of the party wants to be part of that epic feet hence the struggle to win the primaries.

The New Patriotic Party has concluded primaries in 262 constituencies in preparation for the 2016 elections.

The latest are the Okaikoi South and Korle Klottey constituency elections.

The primary in Korle Klottey has suffered two petitions and one injunction by some members of the constituency who suspected foul play.

There was chaos at the party headquarters where the Korle klottey primary was organized with Valentino Nii Noi Nortey winning with 393 votes.

But the director of elections of the NPP, Martin Adjei Mensah explains that the infighting is because the party is on the verge of making history.

Speaking to JoyNews’ Latif Iddrisu, the director of elections said he can’t wait to see how the ruling NDC organizes its primaries in the coming months.

He commended delegates and members of the NPP for what he described as “a largely successful and peaceful processes”.

He added that “unless your party is a dead party, you should expect some of these infighting and so I don’t find this strange at all”.

He said the NPP is working within a stipulated timeframe and would finish with the primaries on schedule.

Meanwhile the disgruntled Philip Addison has expressed sadness about the irregularities and chaos that characterized the Korle Clottey primary.

Chairman of the committee of elders who doubles as chairman of elections in the Korle Klottey constituency has blamed the General Secretary of the party for the chaos and eventual boycott that greeted the Korle Kortey constituency primary.

Mr. Bradford Daniel Kwame Adu in an interview with Latif said “I warned Kwabena of the consequences if he goes ahead with the decision to hold the primary on August 2 but he turned a deaf ear to it.

“It is sad that a party waiting to take over from the failed Mahama administration is not well organized and seem to be fighting among ourselves”, he added.

The former Member of Parliament for the Okre constituency in the Eastern Region admonished Kwabena Agyepong “to listen to divergent views” in the party going into the 2016 elections.
