GIGS Advises GMA To Re-Submit Yesable And Acceptable Proposition Of Condition Of Service To Government
04.08.2015 LISTEN

The Ghana Institute of Governance and Security wishes to call on the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) to re-submit yesable proposal to government in order to enable amicable resolution of the misunderstanding and conflict in their negotiation process which has forced some Medical Doctors on strike.

As much as the Ghana Institute of Governance and Security will agree with our Medical Doctors in demanding a condition of service like any other professionals both in private and public, the method they are adopting and holding to ransom sacrificing the live of patient for their monetary benefits will turn their demand into blood money.

As far as we are aware, Medical Doctors have been enjoying some condition and benefits in the past and that since the introduction of single spine salary some of these conditions of service has been added to their basic salary like any public servant.

Their present position and demand look as if they have never had any condition of service in this country which is a public deceit to win sympathy from the public whose live they are suppose to save.

However, their present demands for example the proposal wants Doctors to be entitled to 40% of basic salaries as accommodation allowance per month, 20 percent as core duty facilitation allowance, 30% clothing allowance, 20% maintenance allowance, 20%utility allowance,50% as professional allowance and 25 special risk allowance and vehicle tax exemption to doctors as captured in most media report look very, very outrageous and untenable.

Again the Institute is seriously worried that the Ghana Medical Association members do not consider the dire consequences and great national security implication before it embarked on strike action. We could also make our urgent request as legitimate as possible to Government to demonstrate it constitutional obligation to protect lives, engage striking doctors, and negotiate properly in order not plunge this country into further economic challenges and most importantly not provoking other professionals and all public servant to become uncontrolled and therefore degenerate into many labour unrest in the country.

GIGS could source in universal standards of justice, fairness, reason and encourage the contending parties, Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, The Fair Wages and Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Health, and it employees the GMA members to exhibit professionalism in negotiating toward peaceful resolution .On humanitarian grounds, GIGS appeal to the Medical Doctors to go back to work to save live base on Hippocratic oath they have sworn
