CPP CPP is very much alive and awake - Director of Elections
AUG 4, 2015 LISTEN

Bolgatanga, Aug 4, GNA - The Director of Elections and Spokesperson for Youth and Sports of the Convention People's Party (CPP), Mr Kwabena Bomfeh (jnr), has stated that the party is very much alive and awake.

Addressing the media in Bolgatanga during the party's Regional Congress to elect Regional Executives, the Director of Elections reacted that the recent Electoral Commission report that the party had no functional offices in some parts of the country and risks losing its license to carry out its activities was baseless.

Mr Bomfeh (jnr), popularly known as 'Kabila,' stressed that the EC's claim was never true, and stated that the party had offices across the regions.

He indicated that what might have eluded the EC could be the fading of some of the offices building of the party's colours.

He argued that apart from that, the EC report was outdated, since it was dated as far back as 2013, and could not therefore reflect the current reality of the party on the ground.

'Our party has no problem. We have satisfied all the requirements of the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574), including the submission of the party's annual audit reports. The 2013 EC report carried out by some media houses about the CPP is therefore not a true reflection of the reality on the ground, 'the Director of Elections stressed.

He said the party, therefore, wondered why the very EC which had supervised the party to organize the 275 constituencies' elections, and seven regional congresses across all the regions, was accusing the party of violating the Political Parties Act, 2000 (Act 574).

He added that the taking over of the party's offices by the State also accounted for the party's woes, stressing 'It is very sad that under the fourth republican constitution the State which is required to protect our interest and properties, has confiscated the party's buildings'

Mr Bomfeh who is also vying for the position of the General-Secretary of the party, expressed worry about high child mortality , energy, economic , unemployment and health problems in the country , and entreated Ghanaians to vote for the CPP, to help address the problems.

In all, 135 delegates from the 15 constituencies in the region, participated in the voting of the Regional Executives.

Alhaji Ibrahim Hussaim emerged as the Regional Chairman. He polled 68 votes to beat his two contestants, Mr Dan Kunde and Mr John Yaro who got 46 and 25 votes respectively.

Mr Ramsey Yenbil secured 108 votes to become the First Vice Chairman, whilst his opponent, Mr Yusif Awuf, got 31 votes. Mr Abire Ayineyelison won the position of Secretary with 117, while his contestant, Mr Cliton Bukari, got 21 votes.

Mr William Abayase was elected as the Regional Treasurer.

The positions of Women Organizer, the Youth Organizer and the Education Secretary were unopposed.

The election was conducted by the EC.
