Madam Lydia Frempomaa Boateng, the Head teacher of Agona Duakwa Salvation Army Basic School in the Agona East District of the Central Region has underscored the need to invert the current infrastructural state of the school.

In an exclusive interview with media at the school premises as part of the outreach programme organised by the Agona Duakwa Salvation Army Community Based Rehabilitation project for persons with disability in collaboration with Centre for Hearing and Speech Services at the Department of Special Education of the University of Education Winneba to screen the pupils, the Head teacher described the infrastructure situation as berserk and needed a facelift to improve the teaching and learning in the school.

“Since this school was established and handed over to the government as a public school in September 2003, there has not been any major improvement in the school. The place needs proper classrooms, staff common room, potable water, library, place of convenient, and teaching and learning materials”, she stated.

She also recounted how even three to four pupils share a textbook in class which does not auger well for teaching”.

Madam Boateng said with the intervention of the teachers, the enrolment had increased from a minimum of four (4) to twenty – five (25) and a maximum of six (6) to forty (40) and called on governmental and non – governmental organisations, individuals, philanthropists and stakeholders in the sector to come to the aid of the school to improve infrastructure of the school.

Madam Frempomaa Boateng says, she has reported the situation to the appropriate authorities but the problems remain unaddressed.

The Head teacher advised the parents and the teachers to support each other and show unconditional love for the pupils in order not to be affected by the situation of the school so that they become responsible adult in future.
