Fashionistas Of Our Time; Pappy Kojo And Joey B Creating A Fashion Sensation In Ghana!

Celebrated Hiplife group, 4X4; Ghana´s rap doctor, Okyeame Kwame and the godfather of Hiplife music, Reggie Rockstone were hitherto great debonairs in Ghana music. And ever since Afropop duo, Pappy Kojo and Joey B hit our TV screens with the music videos of Realer No and Wave; they have managed to create a fashion sensation in Ghana.

The twin Realers, Pappy Kojo and Joey B have sensationalised our music system with their vintage fashion in a twinkling of an eye. Wow! Let´s celebrate these Ghanaian fashionistas of our time, because they are more than praise-worthy for their innovation!

Also, we all know that fashion is inseparable from showbiz and so these two artistes maximise their musical influence through fashion. And you can never talk about the latest fashion sensation in Ghana music now without making reference to the Pappy-Joey fashion. No wonder the fashion craze among the vast majority of our urban youth are inspired by the Fante Vandamme, Pappy Kojo and the Tonga Man, Joey B. Thank God for these two Hiphop acts, because they have helped spice up rap music in Ghana through fashion. But let us not forget that Pappy Kojo and Joey B are only champions of a particular style of dressing of recent vintage and not necessarily the inventors.

Moreover, there is a school of thought that Pappy Kojo uses his fashion as a camouflage for his mediocrity in rap music. This is true to some extent but it has given him as much mileage as he wanted from fashion when he entered mainstream music in Ghana. And it was also rumoured that Joey B has been busted for fashion piracy since he dresses exactly like American rapper, Theophilus London. Ha-ha, but why should people make a fuss about their style of dressing! Besides, the bottom line is that how they present themselves as rappers have built their brands incredibly. At least, we should commend them more for this branding strategy which has worked perfectly for them.

Again, Pappy Kojo and Joey B in tattered skinny jeans, big hats, customised T-Shirts, caps and others are their routine dressing styles which make them the darling of the fashion world in Ghana today. Even though that appears so childish to some individuals, Pappy and Joey set their own trends in Ghana´s fashion circles to the surprise of many.

That is why I challenge all talented youth in Ghana to choose brand positions in their respective fields which seem unique to them. And I humbly advise them to add African elements to their fashion to depict Pan-Africanism, because that helps a lot in the area of Afropop.
