Shama (WR), Aug. 2, GNA - Mr. Paul Evans Aidoo, Western Regional Minister, on Tuesday inaugurated a newly constructed fire station for the Shama District to combat the incidence of fire outbreaks in the area.

The facility was funded by the Assembly at a cost of GHȼ220, 000.00. The station would ensure timely and prompt response to any fire outbreak in the area.

Speaking at the inauguration at Shama, Mr. Aidoo said the fire station formed part of numerous projects being undertaken by the government and assured that the resources of the nation would be used judiciously, to enhance the development of the country.

He said the government had expanded many educational and health facilities across the country, as well as undertaking rural water, sanitation and electrification projects to better the lives of the people.

The out-going District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Mr. Enoch Kojo Appiah, said hitherto, the district relied on the Sekondi fire station during fire emergencies and urged the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

Assistant Fire Officer of the GNFS, Obeng Dwamena Dankwa, expressed his appreciation to the government for putting up the facility and assured that it would help curb the incidence of fire outbreaks.
