A heavy downpour has caused a massive disaster in the Akatsi North District of the volta Region. The rain which started around 4:00pm on Friday, 11TH July, rained all day till late in the night.

The mostly affected community was the Ave – Afiadenyingba community where the only school in the town had been badly affected by the rain. The three classroom block for the JHS unit had all been unroofed by the storm whereas some other classrooms in the primary department had also had its fair share of the rains anger.

When we visited the school on Saturday, school kids and some teachers were seen gathering some few things that they could get from the main school office which was also not spurred by the angry storm.

Mr. Dzoboku Edwin, a teacher who spoke to us said, the disaster is likely to affect smooth running of teaching and learning for some time until the affected building is renovated.

Hon. Alhaji Salifu Iddrisu, Assemblyman for the Ave – Afiadenyingba electoral area pleaded with the District Assembly, philanthropists and NGOs to come to their aid as early as possible to get the building fixed.

On his part, the District Chief Executive of the Akatsi North district, Hon. James Gunu assured the school that the district assembly will find money as early as possible to get the affected school fixed before the end of this month.

Meanwhile, hunger is likely to hit the district as several farms were also affected. The people of Akatsi North are mostly peasant farmers but their farm crops were not spurred by the rains.
