Hearing the Word of God

Feature Article Hearing the Word of God
AUG 2, 2015 LISTEN

I was sent by Yeshua, the creator of heaven and earth.

Precious is this: that you would obey what you are given in season. Seasons come and seasons go. The Word of God however, it abides forever. Since the Word of God abides forever, it stands to reason that living in “forever”—a state of eternity—will only be concluded as a result of obeying God’s Word in every season or opportunity that God gives you in this life. Were you aware that every time you disobeyed your Father’s voice, you set a precedent negating your future in eternity? That is the subject of this article.

Faith and Hearing
It is written, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). The verse is clear on two things. First, it deals with how faith comes about. Faith, or belief in the unseen God is the result of hearing something. Next, the verse deals with the subject of hearing. True hearing (or hearing with your spirit), is the result of hearing a particular kind of message: “the word of God”. Put it all together, and it is evident that the faith to do what God tells you is the result of always hearing whatever He says.

If I were an inexperienced preacher, it would be easy for me to simply say that Romans 10:17 is fundamental doctrine and that we all know this. End of story. In reality though, I know better. This doctrine may seem fundamental, but it is lost on the minds of many older Christians. To the youth: beware of the many older Yezebel-spirited persons in the house of God!

When you stop hearing the Word of God, your faith will not increase. And so, if you are constantly hearing a message, but your manifested faith is sinking, know this! You are hearing a tainted message. It cannot be the Word of God. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

Literally, the Word of God has the capacity to do many things by virtue of its attributes. Here are some of those attributes in point form from the previous verse:

  1. It is quick (alive);
  2. It is powerful;
  3. It is sharper than (ANY two-edged sword);
  4. It is piercing;
  5. It discerns.

If you are really hearing the Word of God, you will see the results of the inspiration of His Word in your life. In other words, you will become a living testimony of the Word. You will therefore become, “quick” (alive), “powerful”, “sharp”, “piercing” and you will “discern” the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Not just hearers, but doers also
It is written, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was” (Yakob/James 1:22-24).

Very straightforward as you can see! If you are a hearer, and not a doer of the truth, you are deceiving yourself. Faith without works is dead! And this principle of the Kingdom applies to every single individual in it! It does not matter if you are a prophet or a priest.

Now, you may be wondering why I’d mention the term “priest” in the current gospel dispensation. Well, it is because even though we are in a church generation consisting of both Yehudim (Jews) and other nations, there are still Levites and Levitic priests who form a part of the body of Mashiach (Christ). Father, let your will be done.

Conclusion: Obeying the Voice of God
In the history of ancient Yisrael, one of the very important factors that led to its constant backsliding as a nation is its refusal to obey the “voice of God”. Prophets were used to periodically warn Yisrael about its backslidings. This is evidence that the Almighty Yahweh never intended for His people to be without His real time guidance in the earth. This is to say that even though He gave His written words, the law and the scriptures, He reserved in Himself the authority of His will by making sure that occasionally, in order for us to get anything done, we would have to hear His voice. In fact, that is why He gave us His Holy Spirit.

Father Abrakham was a blessed man. Why? It is written, “And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of the heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws” (Bereshit/Genesis 26:4-5).

Even father Abrakham, in order to receive the blessing, he OBEYED “MY” voice: referring to YAHWEH’S VOICE. The lesson? You will never be blessed until you learn to obey His voice. The next time the Spirit of grace warns you about anything, think twice about disobeying. It may cost you your very life! Even then, remember to “try the spirits” whether they are of God. Amen (and so shall it be).
