CSO’s deepens Action2015 campaign

Civil Society Organisations have gathered to deepen the campaign for Action2015.

Action2015 is a growing global citizen’s movement to demand ambitious outcomes from key sustainable development and climate change goals summit in 2015 and hold decision makers accountable for their delivery through mass public mobilization.

Aku Xornam Kevi, Director, Purim African Youth Development Platfrom [PAYDP] said 2015 is a critical year in the sense that there are a lot of international conferences come up notably is the Sustainable Development Goals [SDG] and the Climate Change summit.

According to her, the Action2015 campaign will create awareness for government and organizations who still did not know the Millennium Development Goals.

“We are putting our efforts together to make sure that the common person on the street knows what the MDGs are. In our activities as CSO’s, we realized that a lot of organizations still do not even know the Millennium Development Goals [MDG]. So our efforts are to make sure that government will be able to step up in what is going to happen in September this year considering the Sustainable Development Goals that is yet to come,” she stated.

She calls for a national development blueprint in tandem with the new SDGs targets.

Mr. Bernard Anaba, Policy Analyst at the Integrated Social Development Centre [ISODEC] noted that they are seeking to expand their campaign mobilization over the past weeks and the wayforward for the Sustainable Development Goals [SDG] and the climate change meeting.

He said this year leaders are setting goals to end poverty, inequality and climate change that all key to the socio-economic development of the country.

According to him, the year 2015 is once in a generation opportunity and as the largest population of young people in history we are the generation with the power to make sure leaders keep their word.

The Action2015 campaign is in line with the United Nations General Assembly summit of the SDGs which is yet is to announced in New York in this September – these will be 17 goals to shape development around the world over the next 15 years.

Notwithstanding, the next is the global climate change meeting which will take place in Paris in December.

PAYDP, and with the support of ISODEC and CGAP, brought together CSOs to achieve the positive outcomes of Action2015 campaign.
