SCORES OF National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithful in the Ashanti Region are downhearted following reports that Joseph Yamin, the party's former regional secretary, had quit partisan politics.

Even though Brogya Genfi, a close pal of Yamin, has described the report as false, most of the NDC faithful in the region are yet to overcome the shock which hit them following the report on social media.

'I have been following this platform and others and I must say I am grateful for all the support; but from today and in 12 hours from now, I will be exiting this platform and the over 200 groups to officially announce my exit from politics. A press conference in the coming weeks will officially announce my exit. Thanks so much,' a message Yamin posted on a WhatsApp platform indicated.

There are strong indications that indeed Yamin posted the message on the NDC WhatsApp platform of TEIN members at KNUST on Wednesday evening, obviously to test the pulse of the party and as a bait to attract an appointment after he was sacked as Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister. It suddenly went viral on other social media platforms.

He has failed to come out publicly, thereby allowing the speculation to travel far and wide.

The report was said to have come as a big shock to NDC faithful in the Ashanti Region who see Yamin as a key figure whose expertise and influence would help the party to win one million votes in the region in 2016.

In a chat with DAILY GUIDE, Mr Brogya Genfi suspected that detractors of Yamin, whom he could not readily pinpoint, intentionally posted the false information on facebook just to tarnish Yamin's image and also give him a bad name.

Brogya stated that Yamin is not a coward and that even if he indeed wanted to quit politics, he would personally come out boldly to say it, noting, 'He would not use facebook to make such a big announcement.'

He said quitting politics is a big decision; therefore, even if Yamin has such intention, he would consult a lot of people in the party before he finally announces it.

Genfi therefore implored the public, especially NDC faithful in the Ashanti Region and the country at large, to treat the report with the contempt that it deserves, stressing that Yamin is still in politics.

He stated that Yamin was still an integral member of the NDC 'and he would play an active part in our campaign for victory 2016.'

According to him, Yamin is even billed to address NDC youth who are currently having their youth conference in Kumasi on Sunday, and urged those who doubt him to visit the venue for verification.

He was the deputy sports minister before he was moved to the Ashanti Region as deputy minister of the area.

He was kicked out of office as deputy regional minister some months ago together with the then Ashanti Regional Minister, Samuel Sarpong, following wide reports of friction between the two personalities.
