Regional Minister addresses Assembly

Madina, July 31, GNA - Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Greater-Accra Regional Minister, has said the water project embarked on by government in the region three years ago, had been completed.

He said it was left with the construction of huge pipelines to link communities and new development areas.

The Regional Minister disclosed this when he addressed a stakeholders meeting organized by the La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMA), at the Social Welfare Women's Training Centre at Madina near Accra.

He said most of the dual roads in the city were gradually been converted into four lanes, and gave the assurance that some of the major roads would be asphalted to increase the durability of the roads.

Nii Afotey Agbo said the government was buying more drugs to send to the various hospitals, and urged Ghanaians to maintain the peace and stability to enhance good development in the country.

Alhaji Amadu Sorogho, Member of Parliament for Madina, said he was instrumental in the creation of the Assembly after it was placed under three different Assemblies in the Greater-Accra-Region.

He told the meeting that he had acquired two hospital ambulance vehicles for the Madina Hospital.

The MP urged residents in the Municipality to unite for its development.

Mr Franklin Anku, La-Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Chief Executive, disclosed that LaNMMA's Internally Generated Fund (IGF) which projected ¢3,301,650 as budget revenue for 2015, had the actual revenue as at June 30, bagged ¢1,533,966.43 (47%).

He said the budgeted expenditure fixed for ¢3,240,733.32 had ¢1,306,497.80 as the actual revenue for June 30, 2015 representing 40%.

On road infrastructure, the MCE said, several roads were upgraded within the Municipality.

Drains, he said, were constructed at various locations within the municipality, while toilet facilities were also built for some schools.

Mr Anku said renovation of the Madina Magistrate Court was also undertaken, while more than 3,000 dual desks were also supplied to schools within the Municipality.

He said a 250 KVA generator was purchased for the Assembly to ensure an un-interrupted power supply.

On Health, the MCE said, an Out-Patient Department was being constructed at the Kelekele Polyclinic in Madina as a Phase Two Project.

Mr Anku said out of 750 tonnes of solid waste generated in the Municipality daily, the Assembly was only able to collect 490 tonnes.

LaNMMA, the MCE disclosed, intended to provide more socio-economic infrastructure in the Municipality, identify new revenue areas, and put in place efficient methods of collection to improve its revenue base.

It also intends to construct an office complex to house all the departments of the Assembly, the MCE added.
