DEFEATED ASPIRANT in the just ended New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary for Tema Central Constituency, Ramseyer Agyeman Prempeh is demanding unqualified apology from Electoral Commission (EC) in the Tema Region over what he described as the misconduct of EC officials.

In the petition addressed to the Regional office in Tema which was chanced on by DAILY GUIDE, the proprietor of the Tema High School catalogued a number of anomalies he claimed the officer of the EC conducted during the primaries.

According to him, the EC officer allowed the Constituency Chairman, Mr. Charles Boateng to lead delegates to the EC officers in charge of the register and the ballot papers thereby intimidating delegates to vote for his preferred candidate.

He asserted that the ballot boxes were arranged in way to give a clearer view to people to know which candidate delegates voted thus compromising the principle of secret balloting.

'I personally made complaints to the returning officer or senior officer in charge of the election but he failed to take any necessary action. It is therefore against this background of gross misconduct that I write to you to take the necessary action.' He stated in the petition.'

He called for pragmatic steps to be taken to address the anomalies which in his view had violated electoral rules.

Responding to the petition, Mr. Watson Tizor Apentsui, the Regional Director of EC in Tema noted that the Constituency Chairman is the Chairman of the Election Committee in the Tema Central and must therefore work together with the EC officials at the centre during the election in order to facilitate the determination of rightful voters in the register as a result of some challenges with the voters' register.

According to him, 'Polling boxes must be arranged in a way that voters behind must face any other person who might be around which is what we did. This would not compromise secret voting of the delegates at all.'

The Tema EC boss further clarified that he does not have Returning Officer but Presiding Officer at that centre contrary to what was in the petition.
