Seek for employment, service personnel urged

Accra, July 30, GNA - Mr Felix Fosu Kwakye, Deputy Minister of Communication, has called on National Service Personnel for 2014/2015 not to relent in their efforts in finding employment as opportunities abounds in the country.

He said the cry of most graduates is the lack of employment opportunities although it is a far cry from the realities on the ground.

Mr Kwakye was addressing the launch of the National Service Week celebration in Accra.

The event on the theme: 'NSS - Meeting Community Needs,' is to instil into National Service Persons the spirit of patriotism to serve Ghana.

The Day was also to express gratitude to service persons all over the country for their continuous support towards national development.

The Deputy Minister said though government is partnering with other private entities to curtail the unemployment situation, it has invested heavily into the economy.

This investment, he said, would transform the structure of the economy and make available permanent and sustainable employment for graduates to earn a decent living.

He said government is spearheading a number of schemes and on-going projects to curb the unemployment rate in the country and advised the personnel to seek for more information adding that the ministry's doors are always open for such enquiries.

He said some projects revitalised so far include the shoe factory at Kumasi, the Savanna Cement Factory, the Ghana Gas Company, Youth in Agric Programme, the Graduate Business Support Scheme, Cooperatives, Rural Enterprise Project, Komenda Sugar Factor and others.

Dr Michael Kpessa Whyte, Executive Director National Service Scheme, expressed gratitude to the service personnel for accepting their place of posting and diligently giving off themselves for the love of the country.

He said to be called a developing country means opportunities abound and this has been shown in the efforts these service persons displayed at their place of postings for the development of Ghana.

He urged the personnel to share their experiences with others especially upcoming graduates to inspire them to accept postings and appreciate the work of the Scheme.

Mr Johnny Osei Kofi, Deputy Chief of Staff, urged the service persons to look into themselves and see what part they could play to develop the country since they have the opportunity to turn things round in the country.

Mr Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwah, Deputy Minister of Education in Charge of Tertiary, also congratulated the personnel for having gone through a year of service for the nation.

He said the service has given them the opportunity to discover themselves which they did not know about and has also afforded them the chance to be independent which would be a benefit to them and the nation at large. GNA
