Is El Destined To Overthrow Sarkodie?

Nobody can dispute the fact that Sarkcess Music boss, Sarkodie currently rules rap music in Ghana. Ever since Sarkodie emerged as a promising rapper from Tema Community 9, he has been able to consolidate his position as the Ghana rap god today. In fact, the prominence Sarkodie enjoys now knows no boundaries in our country Ghana. And we should never forget that he makes up the 4th era of Hiplife music after the Reggie Rockstone era (1994-1999), the Obrafour era (1999-2006) and the Okyeame Kwame era (2006-2010). This means that Sarkodie whose real name is Michael Kwesi Owusu Addo has dominated the rap game here in Ghana since he shot to stardom in 2010.

However, there is one dynamic rapper known as Elom Adablah or EL being the most versatile Ghanaian artiste who appears to be keeping Sarkodie on his toes. Actually, the great exploits of BBnZ Live boss, EL have sparked intense rivalry between him and Sarkodie. But the evergreen Sarkodie keeps on widening the gap between him and all other Ghanaian rappers. And I dare say that the entrepreneurial dynamism of EL as a musician would certainly help him overthrow Sarkodie if really possible.

First of all, let us take a look at EL´s music life to find out whether it is capable of overshadowing that of BET Award winner, Sarkodie. Elom Adablah is a rapper, record producer and a record label owner who consistently does various genres of music in an incredible way. He started out as Skillions Records´ signee which was owned and managed by legendary record producer, Jayso. This guy from Dansoman, a suburb of Accra worked harder to become an independent artiste who could still make waves in Ghana´s evolving music industry. And with determination, he set up BBnZ Live which is responsible for everything EL does in music.

Now to the content of his rap music, Elom Adablah spits rare bars mostly on Afrobeats and on Hiphop tunes which have great musical logic. Also, he is well noted for setting his own trends and not necessarily following the crowd which has helped him a lot in churning out hit tracks since he entered mainstream music few years ago. Unfortunately, EL´s style of music seems attractive to only few Ghanaian music lovers who are the ones who appreciate real music. But we thank God that more people are beginning to accept the classical music of EL. So is EL destined to overthrow Sarkodie? Probably yes, but Sarkodie has grown into an ´´oak tree´´ in Ghana´s rap music which takes a ´´bulldozer method´´ to overthrow him. EL who is the VGMAs´ 2014/2015 Rapper of the Year should remember that the power of Sarkodie is his brand value. For I know EL understands branding better and is working on his as an efficient business-minded artiste. But EL should exceed the limits of Sarkodie in rap music if he wants to overthrow Sarkodie.
