General News Junior Doctors Begin Receiving Salaries
JUL 29, 2015 LISTEN

Junior doctors owed 11 months' salary arrears have begun receiving their monies.

This comes on the back of assurances by government to pay the doctors, who picketed at the offices of the Controller and Accountant General's Department on Monday in a bid to get the salaries paid.

Spokesperson for the junior doctors, Dr. Nana Kissi Attafah confirmed that payments have begun.

He said 'currently I can confirm that two of us out of the 91 have had the full salaries hit their account.'

'The 91 was made up of a group of 64 who were on payroll who had their salaries paid through the Bank of Ghana and then 27 who initially were promised to be paid in August but upon renegotiation, when Haruna Iddrisu intervened, they are also going to get all their monies by close of day today.'

Dr. Attafah further stated that monies of the remaining 27 have been released 'into their institutional accounts and that from 12pm they can start going there for their check.'

He noted that sources from the Prudential bank had told him 'they have received the money from the Bank of Ghana and are yet to confirm a few things with Controller and start effecting payment immediately.'

'So it appears most of the affected doctors are prudential bank account holders so we are waiting to see and everybody is very active awaiting for the notification.'
