UN Secretary-General Appoints Eugene Owusu of Ghana as Deputy Special Representative in South Sudan

NEW YORK, July 28, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) is pleased to announce the arrival of Eugene Owusu of Ghana as the new Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative to South Sudan.

Eugene Owusu was appointed Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, and UNDP Resident Representative to South Sudan in July 2015. Mr. Owusu brings to the position extensive experience in international development and humanitarian affairs. Prior to joining UNMISS, Mr. Owusu served as UN Resident Coordinator, UN Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Ethiopia between 2010 and 2015. Between 2007 and 2010, Mr. Owusu was a Senior Advisor in the UN/UNDP Brussels Office.

Mr. Owusu joined UNDP in 1996 and worked in several capacities in the Africa region, including as Economic Advisor in UNDP Uganda (1996-1999), as Economic Advisor in UNDP Sierra Leone (1999-2002), and as Deputy Resident Representative (Programme) in UNDP Tanzania (2002-2007).

Before joining the United Nations, Mr. Owusu worked for the private sector in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Owusu is married and has three children.
