The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has inspected the progress of work at the Odaw Canal dredging site at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

The chief of staff was accompanied by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, and his deputy, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye and Elvis Afriyie Ankrah among other dignitaries.

The CEO of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, and his technical team, who are the engineers working on the project, led the delegation to inspect the ongoing project.

Briefing the delegation, Ibrahim Mahama expressed satisfaction at the progress of work, saying that the project is expected to be completed in 2015.

He explained that the dredging project is capital intensive and that it is being carried out as his company's corporate social responsibility to help save the country a lot of money.

The CEO further mentioned that Engineers and Planners was providing the technical expertise for the project while the government was also providing the fuel to keep the vehicles operational.

Ibrahim Mahama stated that the earth-moving machines being used for the project belong to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD).

The Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Alhaji Collins Dauda, said the partnership with Engineers and Planners came to the ministry as a great relief.

Alhaji Collins Dauda was happy that the dredging and clearing of sledge and other debris along the canal had gone on smoothly, assuring that state property would equally be protected.

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that he was happy about the progress of work and assured that government would decide on further developments along the canal.

The Minority in Parliament had earlier raised concern about Ibrahim Mahama's use of the earth-moving machinery and accused him of using state property for his personal gains.

Ibrahim Mahama, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, however debunked claims that the branding of the vehicles was a deliberate attempt to take over state property for his personal gains.

He explained that the action was rather a security measure to ensure that his company was answerable for the safe use and return of the machinery to the state when the dredging operations were over.
