27.07.2015 LISTEN

The Committee of Enquiry instituted to investigate the circumstances that led to the collapse of the Bunso Arboretum canopy walkway has presented an interim report to the Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere in Koforidua. It would be recalled that, more than twenty (20) holiday revellers were injured when they fell off from the canopy walkway on the Republic Day this year.

This resulted in the institution of a five-member committee by the Regional Minister to delve into the causes of the fatal accident, ensure that operations and safety measures are put in place for the facility, make recommendations for the safe use of the facility and any other issue of interests on the public use of the facility.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Committee, ACP James Abass Abaah was optimistic to make the final report ready by the end of the week. He explained that, the move was to let the minister get first hand information about the committee's findings before the final report is presented to him hence, the presentation of the interim report.

The Minister on his part expressed gratitude to the committee for the thorough, diligent and timely work done. He however gave the assurance that while waiting for the final report, he together with the Regional Security Council would study it and make decisions accordingly. Mr. Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere promised to implement the recommendations made by the committee to uphold safety standards at Bunso Arboretum and other numerous tourist sites within the Eastern Region.
