The New Patriotic Party’s newly elected parliamentary candidate for Tema West, Carlos Ahenkorah, has assured party supporters he’ll work hard to retain the seat in the upcoming 2016 elections.

Incumbent MP Naa Torshie Addo was defeated in yesterday’s primaries after her contender secured almost twice her votes.

Carlos Ahenkorah polled 502 votes while Naa Torshie Addo had 273. A third contender Adjoa Amoakoa had just two votes.

Naa Torshie Addo conceded defeat and urged unity within the party.

Carlos Ahenkorah who was initially disqualified and cleared subsequently charged delegates to work with him to ensure victory in 2016.

He told his vanquished opponent her place in the party in the Tema West constituency remains intact.

“To you delegates, I say thank you very much for the confidence reposed in me; I will deliver,” he stated.

Meanwhile, NPP’s Director of elections Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah says the leadership of the party will this week meet to deliberate on constituencies that could not hold the elections Saturday because of court injunctions.

The Korle Clottey constituency in Accra and Kwesimintsim in the Western Region did not vote as was planned because of last minute court injunctions.

At Korle Clottey, some six supporters of the party are seeking the disqualification of one of the aspirants, Nii Noi Nortey.

They contend that he submitted a fake certificate as part of his forms demanded by the party’s vetting committee.

An Appeals Committee of the party cleared him to contest but the six believe he is unfit to contest.
