NPP's Korle Klottey primary in limbo as six apply for injunction

The Parliamentary primary for the Korle Klottey constituency scheduled for Saturday is in limbo following an injunction application by some aggrieved NPP supporters.

The area is one of the eight constituencies the party intends holding parliamentary primaries to elect candidates ahead of the 2016 elections but six people have filed a case in court to restrain the NPP from going ahead with the process.

The six, Juliana Briandt, George Attor Williams, Mary Crentsil, Ebenezer Acquah, Michael Nana Nkansa and Edward Quansah are accusing Nii Noi Nortey, a contestant in the upcoming polls of forging his university certificate.

Represented by Egbert Faibille Jnr the plaintiffs are asking the court to stop Nii Noi Nortey, from contesting the Korle Klottey NPP primary, insisting that the defendant is under police investigation for submitting, as part of his forms for adoption as NPP parliamentary candidate, a forged certificate that he holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree.

This is not the first time such an accusation has been made against the contestant.

The party was early on petitioned by some aggrieved members who accused the contestant of forging his certificate but the party's appeals committee passed him to contest in the belated primary on Saturday.

In a writ filed on Thursday, a copy of which has been available to Myjoyonline.com, the plaintiffs are also accusing the NPP, who are first defendants in the case, of breaching Article 296 of the 1992 Constitution when it failed to communicate to the plaintiffs the outcomes of the two petitions submitted in respect of Nii Noi Nortey's bid to contest the Parliamentary election.

They are asking the court for general damages.
The party is yet to receive the writ, Joy News' Kwakye Afreh Nuamah has said.

"The party has not received anything," The General Secretary of the Greater Accra executives Adams Salbo said.

There are claims that Lawyer Philip Addison one of the contestants in the Korle Klottey elections is scheming to have Nii Noi Nortey disqualified so he would have an easy road to Parliament, a claim, Addison has dismissed.

Meanwhile, there is simmering tension in Kwesimintim as one of the contestants there is also threatening court action.

Joe Mensah is accusing people of hijacking the party. It is not clear if elections will be held in those two constituencies.

The party has however issued a statement Friday, announcing the constituencies where voting has been withheld due to court wrangling.
