Confusion Rocks NDC In WR
24.07.2015 LISTEN

The Western regional branch of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been plunged into serious crisis following escalating internal wrangling which has led to accusations and counter accusations among some kingpins of the party in the region.

Some NDC activists have stated that the party risks losing majority of its seats in the region if steps are not taken to curb the total confusion that has rocked the ruling party in the area.

Some party faithful are voicing serious concerns about the direction of the party in the region which, they claimed, was gradually seeing rapid erosion of its support in the area because of the seeming deep rifts among the executive members of the party in the region.

They feared that the ruling party would lose the 2016 polls, particularly in the region if it went into the election divided, adding that 'if immediate steps are not taken to settle the internal wrangling, winning the region for the NDC will be very difficult.'

According to credible information, many party bigwigs in the region have started appealing to some national executives of the NDC to intervene to rescue the party from its current situation in the region.

Last Friday, the Western Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC, Younos Mohammed, blamed the Western Regional Minister and the NDC Member of Parliament (MP) for Sefwi Wiawso, Paul Evans Aidoo, for the current problems in the party.

Speaking on Takoradi-based Skyy Power FM, the disgruntled regional youth organiser of the NDC described Paul Evans Aidoo as very wicked and a failure who wants to collapse the party.

Younos Mohammed alleged that the regional minister once told party members in Sefwi Wiawso that any party member who was not pleased with the ruling NDC could leave and join any political party of their choice.

'If you attend Pentecost Church and you are not pleased with the service and customs of the church, you can leave and join the Roman Catholic Church,' the minister was reported to have said.

Younos Mohammed pointed out that President Mahama should be wary of the plots of the regional minister to destroy the party and send it to opposition.

Reacting to the assertions by the youth organiser, the NDC National Communications Officer, Solomon Nkansah, described Younos Mohammed as an irresponsible person who is only creating a mess in the NDC in Western Region.

Solomon Nkansah who was defending Paul Evans Aidoo, described Mohammed as a baby in the NDC 'that is why he is accusing the regional minister wrongly.'

Mr Nkansah mentioned that the regional minister could not be blamed for the alleged troubles in the party considering the various sacrifices the minister had made for the party.

'The minister started as an assembly man, then became a DCE and then an MP. He was dragged to court on several occasions during the NPP regime all because he was an NDC activist,' Solomon Nkansah.

Mr Nkansah added, 'You will find Mohammed always complaining to the youth about one thing or the other instead of encouraging the youth to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the oil and gas businesses in the region.'

He continued…'If you work hard, people will help you. Even those of us in Accra, the party people don't just give us money. You need to present your strategic plan of action for consideration.'
