Deputy Ambassador to China, Horace Nii Ayi Ankrah, has described as timely the move by the government to launch a National Development Plan.

He, therefore, praised the John Mahama led administration for its well-timed efforts to have the National Development Plan launched and implemented for the good of the country.

Head of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Nii Moi Thompson announced last week that President John Mahama will on August 4, launch a 40-year development plan that will bind governments to a vision lasting till the country turns 100 years as an independent nation.

"I am happy this is happening at this time of our development as a country and Ghanaians, as a people, need to be proud of any set agenda that will be driving the nation to its rightful destination within a set period," Mr. Ankrah told Atinkaonline.com in an interview Tuesday, 21 July 2015.

"I am equally glad with the manner in which the Commission is consulting all relevant individuals including past Presidents Rawlings and Kuffuor...and various institutions, which are good signs of good intentions."

When asked about how the plan could be sustained, Mr. Ankrah was quick to say "implementing it is easy but sustaining it is another thing".

"But I believe the only way it could be sustained to the benefit of the Ghanaian is to have future political party manifestos based on the national development plan and successive governments judged on how far they took the plan within a set period of its execution."

He urged the law-makers to study its insertion into the whole plan.

"The law-makers should look at that because this is very timely by the current administration that could proof to be timeless," he concluded.
