NDC's agenda 50/50 is a day dream

Koforidua, July 20, GNA - The Movement for Joint Action (MJA), a newly formed pressure group, has described the Agenda 50/50 of the Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as a day dream, and tactics to buy votes and hold the Region to ransom.

Briefing the media at the maiden press conference of the movement, Mr Silas Kwabena Agyekum, leader and Director of Operations of the movement, said launching of the agenda 50/50 was meant to cover up the deepened cracks and divisions in the leadership of the regional executives of the NDC.

Mr Agyenkwa said, the strategy was also an attempt to ignite some level of hope in many disappointed NDC serial callers, foot soldiers, cadres and top functionaries in the region.

The Agenda 50/50 was a campaign launched by the Eastern Regional branch of the NDC to win 50 percent of the popular votes for the 2016 elections in the region for the rest of the political parties who would contest the elections to share the remaining 50 percent among themselves.

He said, instead of the ruling government focusing on fixing the numerous economic challenges currently confronting the country and their abysmal performance in the region, they chose to launch Agenda 50/50 to deceive the public.

Mr Agyekum said despite the promise by the NDC to expand the school feeding program in the region, the party had rather contributed to the collapse of the existing ones with the excuse of lack of funds.

He indicated that for more than a year, most schools in the region had not received their capitation grants and basic teaching and learning materials.

He said several schools continued to remain under trees in the region, while some rural schools learnt under death trap dilapidated classrooms.

Mr Agyekum said, the cost of education had become more expensive for parents in the region, as they were made to pay for almost everything.

Mr Agyekum accused the NDC government of embarking on a theatric sod-cutting spree exercise for the rehabilitation of the roads in the region, which ended just after the jubilation, leaving the roads in the region in a very bad state.

He said MJA was made up of all political parties in the region and its core mandate was to serve and propagate the collective interests of the good people of the Eastern Region, and for that matter Ghana.

He said the movement would stand and defend the fundamental human rights of all manner of persons, regardless of tribe, educational and cultural backgrounds.
