Press Statement Statement From Concerned Konkomba Youth Association: Enough Is Enough! On The Wrong Image Painting
JUL 15, 2015 LISTEN

We the Concerned Youth of Kikpakpalng (Konkombaland) have noticed with grave concern the deliberate and indiscriminate attempts by a section of the media in dragging the Konkomba tribe into bad lime light as violent people anytime conflict occurs.

Ladies and Gentlemen, such glaring example is where a reporter managed to involve Konkombas in the current Bimbilla intra-tribal conflict through his write-up with the caption “More bodies found; Bimbilla death toll now at 19” on Monday, 13th July 2015. To quote a portion of the story on Ghana web, it states that, “the conflict turning into a guerrilla warfare that has been characteristics of Konkomba-Nanumba conflict?".

The question is; couldn’t the reporter get any better illustration to relate with than affiliating it with Konkomba-Nanumba war? Secondly is a caption, “Bodies found on farms put Bimbilla death toll at 19” credited to their northern correspondent on TV3 network website and published on Sunday, 12th July 2015. They must note that such is not only denigrating but also cynical to say the least. We therefore demand an unqualified apology as a tribe and a pulling down of the publication else we shall meet in the court of law and a possible advising of ourselves as customers to their services. Friends of the media, Konkombas have suffered such bad fate for too long.

The unfathomable point is when such occurrences do not affiliate or have no relation with Konkombas yet these reporters still manage to defame us with their unprofessional acts. Konkombas are an embodiment of hospitability, and above all, a peace loving people like any other tribe one can think of in this country.

However, the desperate attempt and unfair treatment we receive from a section of the media to the rest of the world is disheartening to say the least. Hence we the youth are craving on the indulgence of our responsible reporters and media houses to double check and cross check their information and write-ups before putting up misleading and mischievous reportage on Konkombas.

Secondly, they should rather acknowledge and appreciate the enormous contributions konkombas add and continue to add the Gross Domestic Product of this country and stop dragging the name of konkombas into issues which have no and absolutely no relation with konkombas like the current intra-tribal situation in Bimbilla.

Furthermore, we appeal to these media houses and their reporters to gear their energies towards the promotion of peace when conflict erupts than acts that cast slurs on Konkombas for reasons best known to them. Ladies and Gentlemen, Konkombas respect all ethnic groups and give meaning to the definition of hospitality, brotherliness and gear our energies towards issues that bind us as one people in Ghana more than the issues that divide us. We therefore call on reporters to go the extra mile when sourcing to report and write about sensitive issues as conflicts since a false and whack publication damages are irreparable with a glaring example as what has been happening to the Konkomba tribe.

Thank you for your attention and let the peace and unity we are enjoying as a nation continue to be our hallmark in our various endeavors. May God bless us all! Long Live Concern Youth!! Long live Kikpakpalng (Konkombaland)!! Long Live Ghana!!!!!!!!!!! President: Mumuni Believer Likpalmor (0038975978783) Secretary: Jacob Ayamba Nweeda (0243062533)
