Man Convicted For Stealing Cash

Oscar Christian, a 23-year-old unemployed at Asikafoamantem, a suburb of Asankragwa, has been sentenced to 36 months Imprisonment for stealing an amount sum of GHC 950.00, the property of one Nii Kwasi.

Christian who was charged with stealing and unlawful entry pleaded guilty to the offence.

Sentence to run concurrent.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Obeng Asante that the complainant Nii Kwasi is a business man and resided at Newtown, a suburb of Asankragwa.

He narrated to the court that on 23rd day of MAY, 2015, at about 9:30pm the complainant returned from Kumasi with some provisions to stock in his store the next day. The complainant packed the said items on his veranda in order to watch over the said items; he did not lock the door and went o sleep with his wife.

At about 11:30 pm the same day, the complainant’s wife Faustina Ampofo heard an unusual noise on the veranda. She became alert to see what was going on. Not to her surprise, she saw accused person entered their room and steal the cash sum of GHC 950.00 from the complainant hand bag on the center table.

THE complainant’s wife, wake him up when he was fast asleep and pursued the accused and in the process, the accused Huawei mobile phone fell down, though he bolted with the money.

The complainant combed the area and found the accused slippers in front of his store nearby. However, the complainant called his number on the accused mobile and found it to be Vodafone number (0206820680). He later found the number registered on Whatsapp with the accused picture.

The accused was later arrested and during interrogation in the presence of independence witness, he identified the Huawai mobile phone and slippers as his , but denied having stolen the complainant money in his caution statement.
