LRC educates women, children on rights

The Legal Resource Centre (LRC) and the Women and Minor's Rights Committee of the Ghana Bar Association have sensitized women and children on their basic human rights in efforts to help them access legal assistance on issues affecting them.

Ying (NR), July 7, GNA - The Legal Resource Centre (LRC) and the Women and Minor's Rights Committee of the Ghana Bar Association have sensitized women and children on their basic human rights in efforts to help them access legal assistance on issues affecting them.

Market women, weavers, dressmakers, hairdressers, teachers, nurses amongst others, benefitted from the training held at Ying, in the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality and in Sayoo and Kukua in the West Mamprusi District.

Miss Daphne Lariba Nabila, the Executive Director of the LRC, who addressed the group, said the training was necessary because many vulnerable groups did not know their basic human rights.

Ms Nabila advised women to demand from the state the right to social amenities such as educational infrastructure, clinics, provision of electricity and roads to ensure that they benefitted from the taxes they paid to government.

Madam Zeinabu Fuseini, leader of the Bobgu Nyasa Women's Group, who benefitted from the training, commended the LRC for the initiative as it had enlightened them on their rights and how they could access legal assistance.

She appealed to the government to provide Ying with electricity from nearby Savelugu, to promote economic activities and living standards of the people.

She commended Hajia Mary Boforo, the Member of Parliament for Savelugu for the enormous assistance to the community, which include the provision of boreholes, educational infrastructure, road network improvement and supply of farm inputs to women farmers.
