JUL 7, 2015 LISTEN

The 2012 Presidential Candidate and a founder member of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom in his speech at the Edina Bakatue festival 2015 in Elmina as the president and Chairman of Groupe Nduom has promised to extend his infrastructure development to Oguaa and it’s surrounding areas in the central region.

We should all thank God for all his mercies, blessings and opportunities this past year. I stand here in the name of Groupe Nduom, the sole sponsor of the Bakatue festival this year. We have done this because of the support the Edina Traditional Area and the KEEA municipalities have given to our businesses. Many of our businesses were conceived and given a good start from here. Coconut Grove Hotels, GN Bank and others have been pushed to greater heights from Elmina. Indeed, my wife and I were both born and grew up here in Elmina not far from where we are right now.

Groupe Nduom is here by choice through our own will. We are not government. We cannot challenge or take, the place of the President, the Regional Minister, or the Municipal Chief Executive. They are required by the constitution that has put them where they are to build schools, roads, health centers, make our environment clean, prevent diseases and make sure there is law and order among others. For us at Groupe Nduom, once we are law-abiding and disciplined, we can choose what we do, where we go.

We have made Elmina and by extension KEEA our voluntary republic. So since I a the President and Chairman of Groupe Nduom, then I am the President of The Voluntary Republic of Elmina! So consider this my brief plan for the Republic of Elmina.

We are creating an economy within the broader Ghanaian economy in this municipality. Our goal is to directly support education from kindergarten to university levels, a clean and sanitary environment, health and job creation. We are already the biggest employer in value in the KEEA municipality. In five years, we will employ at least 1,000 people in this municipality.

With regard to the environment, we have adopted the area from Essaman to the Castle to complement the efforts of government. We will ensure a garbage-free environment for the area. This is underway and we are showing some positive results. We will build some modern public toilets in Sanka and Pershie to start with.

We will commission our Industrial Estate between Essaman and Pershie in a few weeks where one of our companies, FreshPaK has started producing food containers and related items. Takeaway boxes produced in Elmina by FreshPaK are exported to Liberia and soon to other countries. This Industrial Estate is where through GN Electronics are starting the assembly of television decoders or set top boxes this month and will add televisions to the product line by the end of the year. GN Bank has just opened an agency in Abrem Agona. We will use it and the branches in Elmina to support our farmers and fishermen. This year, we will begin facilitating the procurement of fishing inputs like outboard motors, tractors, nets and fertilizers.

When the Komenda sugar factory is completed, we stand ready to do business with them and I commend government for the initiative. Before the end of this year, we will commence the building of a modern shopping center in Elmina near the Municipal Assembly grounds and also the construction of a housing estate.

In 2016, the Nduom University College will open its doors at Edina Aboabo with plans to become one of the best tertiary institutions with specialization in Business & Finance, Technology and entrepreneurship. By the end of the year we will bring to Elmina a fully equipped ambulance with trained personnel to take care of people in times of need.

The Elmina Sharks FC are part of our family. With the Nduom Sports Stadium near completion, we are working hard and praying for our team to qualify to play in the premier league at the end of this season. We will continue to use Ocean1TV which is part of First Digital TV and Ahomka 99.5 FM to promote our traditions, industries and a positive way of life.

Finally, on Friday this week, Gold Coast Fund Management, PenTrust and GN Bank will jointly launch the Fishermens' Fund a private voluntary savings and pension product to protect our fishermen and their women when they reach pension age.

Groupe Nduom is here to stay. We will continue to collaborate will all state institutions here including the Municipal Assembly and the Traditional Council. We know our activities will spread to the Oguaa traditional area as well. We thank the people of Edina and the rest of the municipality who continue to support our businesses and initiatives. More importantly, we thank God for His Grace.

We wish everyone a wonderful year ahead. For Nananom, we wish you great wisdom, good health and hope to celebrate another Bakatue with you next year.

Groupe Nduom, Beyond Excellence!
